Welcome to the Eau Claire Historic Preservation Foundation (ECHPF). The Historic Preservation Foundation was originally founded in a direct response to the proposed demolition of the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis & Omaha Railroad Depot located at 324 Putnam Street, just to the north of Wisconsin Street in Eau Claire. Forgotten and left to sit vacant, the bid to save and restore the building was unsuccessful and the depot was destroyed in 1987.

Unfortunately, its mark on Eau Claire can never be replaced.

In its place stands a blacktopped parking lot and pole building, quickly erected for a now bankrupt business, complete with a “For Sale” sign.

Our purpose as a group is to engage in activities that will educate and encourage citizens of Eau Claire to enjoy the cultural heritage contained in our buildings. This is accomplished through the preservation, restoration and revitalization of historic properties located in the Eau Claire area.

Join us in preserving the past for future generations.
