Enockson-Gabrielson House
405 Lake Street
1890
This two-story clapboard and shingle covered home was built approximately 1890 in Eau Claire’s Randall Park. It has a veranda with Tuscan columns wrapping the north and east sides of the first floor. They recently painted it in historically sensitive colors, highlighting the fish scale shingles.
One of the home’s early owners, Sigvart M Enockson, was a conductor. Later, a Mr. F. Thomas owned the home. He was the treasurer of the Drummond Packing Company, a meat packing company in Eau Claire. John C. Holdorf, the manager of the Conrad Fur Co owned it in the 1930s and 1940s, until Birger and Dorothy Gabrielson purchased it. Mr. Gabrielson was an employee at the US Rubber Co, later know as Gillette, Gillette-Uniroyal, and then Uniroyal-Goodrich. They had two daughters, one of whom later became a museum professional in Eau Claire. After Mr. Gabrielson’s death, Mrs. Gabrielson owned a travel service. Herbert and Marie Wolff owned the house until the early 2000s, when the current owners purchased it.
