Wickham-McKinnon House
1033 Oxford

ca. 1894, Victorian

Earliest record of this home’s occupant dates back to 1894.  James Wickham, who owned the house into the 1920s, lived there. Wickham was a lawyer downtown, working at Wickham and Farr, in the post office building. By 1920, he’d become judge of the circuit court, and lived with a relative named William.

By 1931, John A. and Nellie McKinnon gained ownership of the home. John, a salesmen, and his wife Nellie, lived there with four relatives, presumably their children: Mary - a teacher for the 7th Ward School (later Randall School), Paul F. – a rodman, Catherine A – a stenographer for the International Harvester Co.; and Joshua, a clerk for the NSP Company. By 1960, ownership of the house had transferred to Mary McKinnon. Catherine continued to live there and by 1980, owned the house.
